Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, in an order late on Thursday night, had asked the Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner to hold elections on a vacant seat on the corporation’s standing committee on Friday.
The election of one member of the Standing Committee of Delhi Municipal Corporation will be held at the Corporation Headquarters from 1 pm today. Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Kumar has issued orders for this. Apart from this, Commissioner Jitendra Yadav was given the responsibility of presiding over the meeting of the House for the elections.
In fact, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, in an order late on Thursday night, had asked the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to hold elections on a vacant seat on the Standing Committee of the Corporation on Friday.

Standing Committee member Election live: Aam Aadmi Party has refused to accept the decision of LG. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Mayor Shelly Oberoi held a press conference in this regard. During this, Manish Sisodia said that the election of the standing committee members will be held on October 5 only.
Lieutenant Governor had reversed Mayor Shelly Oberoi’s decision
Earlier, Mayor Shelly Oberoi had postponed the elections till October 5, while later the Lieutenant Governor overturned the mayor’s decision. Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Kumar, in an order issued late night, said that the Lieutenant Governor has directed to hold the election of one member of the Standing Committee on Friday at 1 pm.
According to the order, Additional Corporation Commissioner Jitendra Yadav has been appointed as the presiding officer of the MCD House meeting to conduct the election for the sixth seat of the committee. This seat had become vacant after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kamaljit Sehrawat was elected Lok Sabha member from West Delhi seat.
Following the disruption over the search of councilors, Mayor Shelly Oberoi postponed the MCD Standing Committee elections and the House meeting was adjourned till October 5.
However, by intervening, VK Saxena late in the night reversed the decision to postpone the elections for the last vacant seat of the Standing Committee and directed MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar to submit the report by 10 pm.
Mayor Shelly Oberoi claimed that this is the first time that security checks of councilors have been conducted and termed it undemocratic and disrespectful to the House members.
