The Bharatiya Janata Party has released the sixth list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Six candidates have been included in this list, out of which five are Muslims. The BJP has nominated Mohammad Idris Karnahi from Karnah, Ghulam Mohammad Mir from Handwara, Abdul Rashid Khan from Sonawari, Naseer Ahmed Lone from Bandipora, Fakir Mohammad Khan from Garej (ST) and RS Pathania from Udhampur East.

The BJP has so far announced candidates for 57 seats. Out of these, Muslims have been given tickets on about 24 seats. Most of the seats on which BJP has fielded Muslims as candidates are located in the valley.

The BJP’s election campaign for Jammu and Kashmir got off to a difficult start when it withdrew its first list of 44 candidates just hours after it was released. This move was taken due to protests from party workers. They were feeling sidelined due to the inclusion of new people in the party. After this, the BJP had to release a revised list.
