England’s legendary batsman David Malan has announced his retirement from international cricket. David Malan, who was the number one T20I batsman, has also said that he would have retired earlier if the board had not given him a central contract. David Malan has played 114 international matches for England in all three formats and he played his last international match for England in November 2023, when he played the ODI World Cup.

He said that if he had not been given a contract till October 1 this year, he would have probably retired from ODI cricket during the tournament itself. According to the Telegraph, Malan said, “I had an England contract – I was not going to leave it early. If I didn’t have that, I would probably have retired the day after the last match of that World Cup. It’s just the way it is and the time is right. Even today it feels the same as it did 10 months ago or eight months ago.”

Last year, while accepting that his ODI career was over, David Malan had expressed hope of going to this year’s T20 World Cup. He also played in the World Cup for England in 2021 and 2022. However, this time he was not selected and England gave a chance to young players, but the team was eliminated after losing to India in the semi-finals. Regarding this, Malan said, “I would have loved to play in the T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies.” David Malan also said that cricket has been an important part of my life. Born in London, Malan has also played domestic cricket for South Africa.
