Doctors’ strike continues in Delhi, RML said- we are united, what is the situation in AIIMS?

The strike of resident doctors in Delhi continued for the ninth day in protest against the brutality with a woman doctor in Kolkata. Patients remained troubled for the ninth consecutive day in big government hospitals like AIIMS. In AIIMS alone, the number of surgeries due to the strike saw a decrease of 85 percent. The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) of the central government-run Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) also said that it stands in full solidarity with the medical community.

Patients were troubled due to the strike continuing for the ninth consecutive day in big government hospitals like AIIMS. In AIIMS alone, there was a decrease of up to 85 percent in surgeries due to the strike. The situation is such that patients coming to the hospital for surgery are having to wander from door to door. Patients say that the safety of doctors is a very important issue but the problems of patients should also not be ignored.

According to a PTI report, initially it was reported that the resident doctors of RML hospital will call off their strike but within a few hours, a statement was issued saying that the RML RDA will continue the strike in solidarity with other Resident Doctors’ Associations (RDAs) who have been agitating for over a week now demanding a central law on doctors’ safety.

The RDA of RML Hospital said in its statement – There was some misunderstanding, for which we apologize. We want to clarify that we stand with our colleagues and other RDAs. We are completely united. On the ninth day of the nationwide strike, both the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) and the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) announced that they would continue the strike until the Health Ministry takes concrete steps on the issue of Clinical Practice Allowance (CPA).
