An exciting clash was witnessed between India and Great Britain on Sunday in the Paris Olympics 2024. India defeated Britain in the first quarter-final of men’s hockey and made it to the semi-finals. India has entered the semi-finals for the second consecutive time in the Olympics. The match remained tied at 1-1 till full time, after which the result came out in a penalty shootout. India won the shootout 4-2. Veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh once again became a wall. He saved two goals of England in the shootout. Captain Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay and Rajkumar Pal scored goals. 36-year-old Sreejesh is playing his last tournament.
India played with 10 players
There was no goal in the first quarter. However, India suffered a big setback in the 17th minute when Amit Rohitdas was given a red card. He had to leave the field and India had to play the rest of the match with 10 players. Captain Harmanpreet opened India’s account in the match. He scored a goal in the 22nd minute. This was Harmanpreet’s seventh goal in the Paris Olympics. However, Bridget equalized shortly after. Lee Morton scored a goal in the 27th minute and the score remained 1-1 till the end of the second quarter. Neither team scored a goal in the third and fourth quarters.
Indian team repeated this history
India’s men’s hockey team has repeated the history of Tokyo Olympics. India entered the semi-finals by defeating Britain in the quarter-finals in Tokyo in 2021. India then defeated Britain 3-1 but lost to Belgium in the semi-finals. However, the Indian team ended the 41-year drought by defeating Germany in the bronze medal match. India will now try to change the color of its medal in Paris.
