Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis has done what no other player has been able to do in Test cricket till date. He has become the first player in the world to score 50+ in eight consecutive Test matches since his debut.
Kamindu Mendis of Sri Lanka has achieved what no batsman has been able to achieve in Test cricket till date. The last Test match of the two match series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand is being played in Galle. By the end of the first day of the match, Sri Lanka has scored 306 runs for three wickets in 90 overs. Angelo Mathews returned unbeaten after scoring 78 runs and Kamindu Mendis returned unbeaten after scoring 51 runs. As soon as Mendis completed his fifty, he has made a special world record in his name. From his debut Test match till now, Mendis has scored 50 plus in eight consecutive Test matches, in this matter he has broken the world record of Pakistan’s batsman Saud Shakeel.
Saud Shakeel scored 50+ in seven consecutive Test matches since his debut Test. In the first Test match of the series, Mendis equalled Shakeel. Talking about Shakeel, he could not score a fifty in his eighth Test match. The way Kamindu Mendis has been playing since his debut, he is being called the future star of Sri Lanka. If we look at Kamindu’s Test stats, he is playing his 8th Test match, during which he has scored 873 runs in 13 innings so far. Kamindu has four centuries and five half-centuries to his credit. His average is 79.36.
Kamindu had scored a century in the first test match of the series. Dinesh Chandimal scored a century on the first day of the match from Sri Lanka’s side, while Mathews and Kamindu have scored fifties. The first day of the match was very difficult for the Kiwi bowlers. Captain Tim Southee took one wicket and Glenn Phillips took one wicket, apart from this no Kiwi bowler got any success on the first day of the match.
