In the Patna paper leak case of medical entrance exam NEET-UG, the CBI on Friday arrested Surabhi Kumari, a first year medical student of RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) College, Ranchi. She is accused of solving the question paper for the candidates. Officials said that she has been sent to CBI custody for three days for questioning.
Surabhi Kumari is said to be the fifth member of the solver module who was present in Hazaribagh on the day of the NEET-UG exam on May 5 morning to solve the paper stolen by Pankaj Kumar. Pankaj Kumar alias Aditya, a 2017 batch civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), stole the NEET-UG question paper from the NTA boxes in Hazaribagh.
The CBI has so far arrested 16 people in the NEET-UG paper leak case. The CBI had contacted the RIMS management earlier this week to question the accused student.
Giving information about this, RIMS Public Relations Officer Rajiv Ranjan told PTI, ‘The CBI team contacted the hospital management on Wednesday and said that they want to question the student in connection with the NEET paper leak. After which the management gave full cooperation to the team. They questioned her on Thursday as well and said that she will be questioned further.’
The official said that the student’s parents had also contacted the management, after which they were informed about the situation.
On Thursday, the CBI arrested four MBBS students of AIIMS Patna, members of the solver module, in the NEET-UG paper leak case. After which they were sent to CBI custody for four days.
According to sources, these five members of the solver gang were tasked with solving the paper so that the list of correct answers could be given to the NEET aspirants who took the services of the gang. The CBI has already arrested Pankaj Kumar, who stole the paper, and Raju Singh, who helped him in the process.
The agency on Thursday also arrested Surendra Sharma in Hazaribagh, who had helped Pankaj Kumar. Sharma was produced before a special court along with four AIIMS students of the solver module, he said.
