New controversy over RG Kar Hospital; Bleeding continued for 3 hours, boy died due to lack of treatment

There is an uproar in West Bengal over the death of a 28-year-old man named Bikram Bhattacharjee. After being hit by a truck on Friday, he was taken to Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he died. This incident happened a day after the state health department had to close the help desks in all 5 medical colleges of Kolkata due to the agitation of ‘Joint Platform of Doctors’. According to the report, the youth from Konnagar in Hooghly was brought to RG Kar Medical College in an injured condition. It is being told that he died due to lack of treatment in the hospital.

Trinamool Congress leaders have targeted the hospital administration over this incident. TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, citing media reports, said that Bikram Bhattacharya did not receive treatment, due to which he died. However, these allegations have been denied by the hospital. Bikram Bhattacharya’s family has not lodged any complaint against the hospital with the police. It is being told in the media report that a general entry diary was made.

Abhishek Banerjee gave advice to the protesting doctors

TMC MP and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has also reacted to this incident. He posted on Twitter and said, ‘A youth from Konnagar lost his life in a road accident. He was bleeding for 3 hours, but he did not get treatment. Doctors are protesting against the incident by doing RG. The demands of the junior doctors are justified. But, I appeal to them to protest in such a way that essential medical services are not disrupted.’

‘…doing this is like unintentional murder’

Abhishek Banerjee further wrote on X, ‘Death of someone due to negligence is akin to unintentional murder. If the protest is to continue, then it should be done with empathy and humanity. It should be ensured that no one else’s life is put at risk due to inaction.’ It is known that the body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar College and Hospital on 9 August last month. The accused Sanjay Roy was arrested a day after this. Currently, the entire case is being investigated by the CBI. The former principal of the college, Sandeep Ghosh, has also been arrested.
