A Hindu priest gave the first speech on the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, USA. During this, the entire hall echoed with the slogan “Om Shanti Shanti”. During this, Rakesh Bhatt, a priest of a temple in Maryland, performed Vedic prayers seeking blessings for the unity of America. Rakesh Bhatt said during his speech, “Even though we have differences, but when it comes to the nation, we should be united. We should be unanimous. We should think together. All this is for the betterment of the society.”
Taking the stage before Kamala Harris’ speech on Thursday, Rakesh Bhatt appealed to the people of America to choose a leader who believes in the Vedic tradition of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Rakesh Bhatt is a priest at the Sri Shiva Vishnu Temple in Maryland. He is of Indian origin who migrated to the US from Bengaluru. He is fluent in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Tulu languages and has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in three languages - Sanskrit, English and Kannada.
‘The Democratic Party is committed to inclusiveness and diversity’
Ajay Bhutoria, Deputy National Finance Chair of the Democratic Party, posted about this on Twitter. He wrote, “This is an important moment that shows that the Democratic Party is committed to inclusiveness and diversity.” Ajay Bhutoria further said, “It is encouraging to see the rich cultural and spiritual traditions of the Indian American community being honored on such a large platform. This moment reflects the growing influence of our community within American society.”
Kamala Harris seems to be gaining lead
The Democrats are officially handing over the reins to 59-year-old Kamala Harris with the hope of defeating Donald Trump in the US presidential elections to be held later this year. According to various surveys, Trump is still leading in this race. However, Harris seems to be slightly ahead.
