Only one arrest so far, what is CBI doing; TMC raises question in Kolkata rape-murder case

Politics has intensified over the investigation of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. In this case, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has now raised questions on the action of the CBI. Ghosh alleged that only one arrest has been made in the case so far, which has been done by the Kolkata Police. Why is there a delay in the action of the CBI so far?

Expressing concern over the issue, Ghosh said, “It is necessary to solve this serious case of rape and murder quickly. So far only one arrest has been made and that too by Kolkata Police. What is the CBI doing?… The investigation is getting delayed and politics is also taking place due to this.”

In this case, the CBI on Sunday conducted searches at the house of former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, in connection with the alleged financial fraud. The CBI also searched the premises of former MSVP Sanjay Vashisht and 13 others. The CBI’s anti-corruption unit also searched the houses and offices of people involved in the supply of material for patient care.

Sandeep Ghosh was questioned at his residence in Beliaghata, while other officials questioned Vashisht Forensic Medicine Professor. The CBI team, which arrived with central forces, faced delays before entering Ghosh’s residence. In this case, the CBI searched the residence of a distributor in Howrah, hospital premises, former principal’s office and canteen.
