Rapes happen because boys and girls talk too much; Mamta Banerjee’s old statement goes viral

There is an atmosphere of anger across the country after the incident of rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. Protests are going on continuously. Widespread opposition to this is also being seen on social media. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not only being criticized, but an old statement of hers is also going viral. In a statement given in 2012, she had blamed the increasing contact between boys and girls for the increase in rape cases.

Mamata had said, “Rape cases are increasing because boys and girls now communicate more openly. Earlier, if a man and a woman held hands, they would be caught and parents would scold them. But now everything is open. It is like an open market with open options.” This statement has again fuelled people’s anger.

He made this statement while reacting to the gang rape case that took place in a moving car in Kolkata’s Park Street area in 2012. He called it a fabricated incident aimed at embarrassing the government.

This is not the first case when politicians have made shameful statements in cases like rape. Recently, politics became heated when the name of SP leader Moeed Khan came up in the case of gang rape of a minor in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Some posters were put up in the capital Lucknow and people were reminded of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s statement in which he had once said, ‘They are boys, boys make mistakes.’

BJP had cornered SP for saving rape accused Moeed Khan. On Akhilesh Yadav’s statement regarding DNA test of rape accused, BJP vice president (Awadh) Shweta Singh had put up a hoarding reminding Mulayam Singh’s statement, which read ‘Mueed hai galti ho jaati hai?’

Let us tell you that in the assembly, BJP leaders including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have alleged that Moeed Khan is a member of the Samajwadi Party and is part of the team of SP MP Awadhesh Prasad from Faizabad.
