Jammu and Kashmir Election LIVE: The second phase of voting for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections has begun. Voting is being held on 26 seats today. This phase includes 15 seats from Kashmir and 11 seats from Jammu. Today, voters will decide the fate of high-profile faces like National Conference vice-president and former CM Omar Abdullah, BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir chief Ravinder Raina. Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra is also in the fray from Central Shalteng seat. PM Modi appealed to the voters to vote in large numbers.

Many big names are in the fray in the second phase of polling today. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah is contesting from his family stronghold Ganderbal. He is pitted against PDP state secretary Bashir Ahmed Mir and jailed cleric and independent Sarjan Barkati. Omar’s other opponent in Budgam is the former CM’s main rival PDP’s Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi. The contest for the Channapura assembly seat is between his party chief Altaf Bukhari, National Conference candidate and businessman Mushtaq Guru, PDP’s Mohammad Iqbal Tramboo and BJP’s Hilal Ahmed Wani.

08:02 AM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir to cast their votes. PM Modi wrote on social media, “I appeal to all voters to cast their votes and play an important role in strengthening democracy.”
