The Election Commission has responded in clear terms to the alleged attempts to defame the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On Sunday, the Commission issued a statement on X, saying that a false campaign is being run to defame the largest election ever held in the history of mankind. The Commission’s statement comes after recent claims made by the Congress party, in which the Congress had suspected rigging over the increase in the final voting percentage.
The Election Commission said in its statement that transparency was maintained with the candidates and stakeholders at every stage of the election. Despite this, attempts are being made to term the voting figures as baseless, which is completely wrong. The Commission also clarified that all electoral processes have been conducted in the most transparent manner and there is no possibility of any kind of rigging.
It is noteworthy that Congress issued a statement on Saturday, in which it was said that the final voting percentage has increased in comparison to the preliminary figures in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. The party considered this increase as a sign of rigging and demanded the Election Commission to investigate it. Congress leader Sandeep Dixit claimed that this increase clearly shows that the BJP has manipulated the election results. Citing the report of an organization called ‘Vote for Democracy’, he said that the report talks about a big difference between the preliminary and final figures of voting.
He claimed, “According to this analysis, there is a huge difference between the vote figures declared by the Election Commission on the polling days and the final voting percentage. If this average difference is 4.7 percent at the national level, then were these election results correct?”
Dixit also alleged that there has been an unexpected increase in voting percentage at the state level, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. He has questioned the election results by linking it to the good performance of the BJP and its alliance. Dixit says, “If we look at the state level, we will find that surprisingly 12.5 percent votes have increased in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It is a coincidence that the BJP and its alliance performed well in the elections in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.”
