Dhawan played his last match for India in the ODI format in December 2022, after which he was continuously out of the team.

Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement by posting a video on Instagram, with which he wrote, “As I end this chapter of my cricket journey, I take with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!”

Dhawan is seen saying in the video, ‘Hello everyone! Today I am standing at such a point from where when I look back, I see only memories and when I look forward, I see a whole world. I always had only one goal, to play for Team India and that happened. For which I am thankful to many people. First of all my family…my childhood coach Tarak Sinha ji…Madan Sharma ji under whom I learned cricket.’

Gabbar further said, ‘I got my team with whom I played for years, I got another family…I got fame and I got the love of all of you. But as they say, to move forward in the story, it is necessary to turn the pages, so I am going to do just that. I announce my retirement from international and domestic cricket.’

Shikhar Dhawan, famously known as Mr. ICC, played 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20 matches for India in which he scored 2315, 6793 and 1759 runs respectively. He has 24 centuries to his name in international cricket. Dhawan scored 17 centuries in ODIs and 7 in Tests. He has no century to his name for India in T20.
