KCR wants alliance with BJP: In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s (KCR) party Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has suffered a crushing defeat, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center has performed well. Out of the total 17 Lok Sabha seats in the state, BJP has won 8, while the state’s ruling Congress has won 8 and Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM has won one. 5 years ago i.e. in 2019, KCR’s party had won 9 and BJP had won four seats.

It is clear that while KCR has been wiped out, BJP’s performance has doubled. This means that there are immense possibilities of BJP’s expansion in the state. BJP has started dreaming of forming a government on its own in this southern state just like Karnataka. It is clear that BJP still has a long way to go for this. Meanwhile, there is a lot of discussion in political circles that KCR, who faced a crushing defeat in the assembly elections and now in the Lok Sabha elections, is now trying his best to form an alliance with his political enemy BJP.

Will BRS be merged?
It is being said that to materialize these possibilities, former CM Chandrashekhar Rao’s son and former state minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) has recently travelled from Hyderabad to Delhi and met some BJP leaders. Actually, BJP’s desire to win in the South and KCR’s desire to return to power is forcing both the parties to come closer for talks. An Indian Express report says that some BJP leaders are trying to take advantage of this political crisis and are also talking about putting pressure on the troubled regional party (BRS) for merger.

What is KCR’s compulsion?
However, a section of BJP is opposing the possibility of alliance with BRS and is saying that this can be a wrong step for the party. On the other hand, after the crushing defeat in the recent elections, KCR has fallen ill and is cut off from public contact, while BRS leaders are leaving the party one by one. Apart from this, BRS is also afraid of lawsuits against its leaders because the Congress government of the state is tightening its grip on the leaders of the previous government.

In such a situation, on one hand there is a fear of action by the state government agencies, on the other hand, KCR’s MLA daughter K Kavitha is on the radar of central agencies. She has been in jail for the last five months in the alleged liquor scam in Delhi and is on the radar of ED. In these circumstances, it is believed that K Chandrashekhar Rao may agree to form an alliance with anyone to save his family first and then the party. Since Congress has been the traditional opponent, KCR may have a better option of forming an alliance with BJP and he may get immediate benefit from this in the form of relief to his daughter from ED action.
