The rape and murder case of a Kolkata woman doctor was heard in Sealdah court on Friday. The court sent the accused Sanjay Roy to 14 days judicial custody. It is known that the body of a junior doctor was found on 9 August in the seminar of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital run by the West Bengal government. The accused Sanjay Roy was arrested a day after this. According to the report, the investigation so far has revealed that the accused was drunk at the time of the incident. A few hours before the incident, he had gone for a walk with his friend in the red light area.
The strike by junior doctors of non-emergency services in Kolkata against the rape and murder case entered the 15th day on Friday. The Supreme Court had on Thursday and Tuesday requested the striking doctors to end their agitation and return to duty. CISF has been deployed to protect doctors at the crisis-hit hospital affected by the strike. The protesting junior doctors said they will visit the CBI office with a delegation to know the progress of the investigation conducted following the Calcutta High Court order. They have also called a conference on Saturday to decide on the future course of action.
