Heavy rain alert in 2 states till Sunday, IMD told the weather condition for the weekend, weather news

IMD Weather Updates 31 August: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has made a fresh forecast. According to the IMD, a new low pressure area has formed in the northwestern part of the Bay of Bengal and it is likely to turn into a deep depression. This will cause rain in many areas of Odisha and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Its effect can also be seen in the adjoining Jharkhand and Bihar.

“The low pressure area over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha has persisted and remains over the same region,” the IMD said in its Saturday morning update.

The weather agency said the low pressure area is likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts during the next 24 hours. It is very likely to intensify into a depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in some areas of Odisha. Most parts of the state will receive light to moderate rains on Saturday and Sunday. According to the IMD, similar weather is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh as well.

Officials said the wind speed is also likely to increase and the sea condition is likely to be rough. They have warned fishermen not to venture into the sea along the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.

Situation improving in Gujarat

Weather conditions in Gujarat are expected to improve as Cyclone Asna, which formed off the coast of Kutch in Gujarat, moves across the Arabian Sea towards Oman. However, many areas are still submerged. The cyclone passed off the Gujarat coast without causing any major impact on the region. Officials said that during the next 24 hours it will continue to move nearly west-northwestwards and then west-southwestwards over the northeastern Arabian Sea off the Indian coast.
