A PIL has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking a ban on the OTT series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’. The petition alleges that the series is presenting facts in a distorted manner about the real identity of the hijackers. The petition alleges that it shows the Hindu names of the real hijackers, including other names of Lord Shiva, ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’. The petition states that this has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community.
This PIL filed by Hindu Sena president Surjeet Singh Yadav has sought directions to the Centre and Maharashtra government to cancel the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate and ban the screening of the series. The petition states that distorting important facts about the real identity of the kidnappers not only misrepresents historical events but also spreads misinformation.
The petition states that distorting important facts increases misunderstanding among the people. Court’s intervention is needed to prevent such potential damage.
Meanwhile, according to a PTI Bhasha report, the central government has summoned the content head of Netflix amid the controversy over the portrayal of hijackers in the web series ‘IC-814: The Kandahar Hijack’. Official sources said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has summoned the content head of Netflix India on Tuesday.
The content head of Netflix India has been asked to give clarification on the alleged controversial aspects of this web series. Another source also said that the central government says that no one has the right to play with the sentiments of the nation. This series directed by Anubhav Sinha was released on Netflix on 29 August.
