Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary Stream Will Feature New Announcements Tomorrow

Square Enix has announced a special livestream celebrating the 40th anniversary of Dragon Quest. The presentation will air tomorrow, May 27, to celebrate Dragon Quest Day and will feature announcements related to the series.

The roughly 10-minute broadcast will be streamed on YouTube starting at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET. We don’t know what the announcements will be, but I’m sure the number one game on every fan’s mind will be the long-awaited Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate. The next mainline entry was first announced in 2021 (for Dragon Quest’s 35th anniversary, funny enough), but it has made nary a peep since then and has yet to receive a release window. Could tomorrow be the day that finally changes?

Square Enix has already released two Dragon Quest titles this year in the forms of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined and the mobile-exclusive Dragon Quest Smash/Grow. It’s possible Square could announce content updates for one or both of these games. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess what to expect. Another HD-2D remake of an older Dragon Quest game? Dragon Quest Builders 3? A new Slime spin-off? Get your wishlists ready now, and let us know what you’d like to see in the comments.
