Jujutsu Kaisen episode director Yuji Tokuno has revealed a touching behind-the-scenes detail about Kento Nanami’s final scene in the anime.
The line quickly struck a chord with fans, many of whom replied saying they missed Nanami and hoped to see him again in future flashbacks.
Nanami Kento is one of the most beloved characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, a former salaryman who left corporate life to become a jujutsu sorcerer, calling it “slightly less idiotic” than office work. Known for his calm nature and distaste for overtime, Nanami’s discipline and quiet strength made him a fan favourite.
In his final moments during the Shibuya Incident arc, Nanami is left half-burned after his fight with Jogo. Barely alive, he continues battling a swarm of mutated humans before encountering Mahito at Shibuya Station. Imagining a peaceful retirement on a Malaysian beach, he tells Yuji Itadori, “You take it from here,” before Mahito delivers the fatal blow.
Tokuno’s detail about the missing clock hands now adds an even more poignant layer to that farewell and has become a fitting nod to a man who finally escaped overtime.
