Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah targeted the Congress-National Conference and alleged that this alliance wants to implement the same agenda of terror master Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, which has ruined generations here and shed blood. Now, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has strongly countered this. Calling these allegations “false”, Kharge said, “BJP may love India, but it is married to Pakistan.”
During a press conference in Jammu on Saturday, Congress chief Kharge took a dig at Prime Minister Modi, saying that our party does not go to Pakistan to eat biryani or hug people. His comment was made in the context of Prime Minister Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan in December 2015, when he met his then counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
Kharge said, “PM Modi and Amit Shah said that Congress-NC’s agenda is linked to Pakistan… all this is a lie and done to divert attention. I ask you, BJP is in power at the Centre for the last 10 years and there are governors appointed by them. Why did they not fulfil the promises they made?” He further said, “You talk about Pakistan. We never went to eat biryani and hug, you went and now you are blaming us. I have a saying that Mohabbat Humare Saath, Shaadi Pakistan Ke Saath.”
Two days ago, referring to the alleged comments of Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Article 370, the Prime Minister had said in clear terms that he will not allow Pakistan’s agenda to be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and no power in the world can bring back Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Modi had alleged that the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance in Jammu and Kashmir coincides with Pakistan’s interests. He warned that voting for the Congress would mean the re-implementation of Article 370, which would pave the way for the return of violence in the valley.
“Every vote given to the Congress will implement the manifesto of the PDP and NC. They want to bring back Article 370. This means they want bloodshed again in the Valley,” PM Modi said at a public rally in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. “There may not be enthusiasm for the Congress-National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir, but the neighbouring country (Pakistan) is very excited for them. Pakistan is very happy about the Congress-National Conference alliance,” he added.
