A group of about 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are reportedly hiding in the upper reaches of the hilly districts of the Jammu region. Security forces have launched a massive anti-terrorism operation in these areas to capture them. These terrorists who have managed to infiltrate the area are highly trained and have some of the most modern and advanced weapons. These weapons also include US-made M4 carbine rifles equipped with night vision devices.
India Today TV quoted sources as saying that these terrorists also have Chinese steel-coated bullets, which are capable of penetrating bulletproof vehicles. Pakistani terrorists active in Jammu division are also adept at mountainous and jungle warfare. They operate in small groups in different areas.
Upon receiving the intelligence input, the army personnel have launched a cordon and search operation to track and chase the terrorists. Apart from this, tunnel detection exercises are going on along the India-Pakistan international border in Samba and action is being taken against the over-ground workers (OGW) of terrorists.
Earlier in the day, army personnel foiled an attempt by terrorists to attack a military post and the residence of a Village Defence Force (VDG) member in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Monday. Army officials gave this information. Officials said that security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the terrorists involved in the incident and during this they had an encounter with the terrorists.
Sources said the terrorist involved in the attack on the VDG’s residence has been killed and a jawan, a civilian and a relative of the VDG were injured in the incident. Monday’s terror attack is the 14th such incident in the Jammu region in recent times, in which 10 security personnel, including two officers, and nine pilgrims have lost their lives and 58 others have been injured. Five terrorists have been killed during this period.
