Uttar Pradesh Rain: The torrential rain in many districts of UP definitely brought relief from the humid heat but became a disaster for the people of Lucknow. Many areas of Rae Bareli, Lakhimpur, Barabanki, Sitapur, Gonda, Balrampur were submerged. In Lucknow, water started flowing on the roads. Due to this, life became completely disrupted. The condition of heavy rain was such that water reached the UP Legislative Assembly premises. Lucknow Municipal Corporation and Mayor’s residence could not escape the rain. Dirty water entered all the departments of the Municipal Corporation and the Mayor’s residence was submerged in water.
Due to the rain that started on Wednesday afternoon, many areas of the city have become islands. Apart from the Vidhan Sabha premises, the VIP area around it also could not escape waterlogging. The Municipal Corporation’s own headquarters also became an island. All the responsible officers of the Municipal Corporation sit here. Despite this, they could not save their office from waterlogging. Water entered all the departments of the Municipal Corporation. Water was seen in many offices including the Tax Department, Rent Department, Environmental Engineer Office, Birth and Death Certificate, Computer Department of the Municipal Corporation Headquarters. Garbage started floating in all the departments. Seeing the waterlogging, many senior officers of the Municipal Corporation went barefoot in their vehicles through the water. Some crossed it wearing the slippers of their employees. The torrential rain also submerged the residence of the Lucknow Mayor.
The situation around the Vidhansabha was very bad. Many VIPs got stuck here due to the session going on. There were problems in taking out the vehicles due to waterlogging. There was heavy waterlogging on the roads outside. Water filled inside the BJP headquarters as well. All the shops around Capital Cinema in Hazratganj are filled with water up to the waist. From clothes to other food items have submerged in water. Municipal commissioner Indrajit Singh himself is handling the situation around the Vidhansabha and Hazratganj along with his team. Drainage work is being done. But the water has not been drained out yet.
The Chief Minister also faced problems due to waterlogging around the Vidhan Sabha
According to the municipal corporation officials, the Chief Minister also had problems in coming out due to waterlogging. He was taken out from Gate No. 1 because the roads around Hazratganj and Vidhan Sabha were filled with water.
The house of the mayor who came to Hyderabad for flood control training got submerged in water
Mayor Sushma Kharkwal is in Hyderabad for flood control training. She is watching a presentation on flood control measures. Meanwhile, during the rains in Lucknow, Mayor Sushma Kharkwal’s house itself got submerged. Goods worth lakhs have been damaged in her house too. The Mayor’s residence is barely 1 km away from the Nagar Nigam. It is near the Family Court on Bala Kadar Road.
