One of the three people arrested in Canada for the murder of Khalistani Hardeep Singh Nijjar has reportedly been beaten up. This attack on the accused took place in the detention center in Surrey. According to local media reports, the accused was in the gym when he was attacked. Canada had accused 4 people of the Nijjar murder, out of which three people were arrested together. These people are currently kept in the detention center. Three youths named Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh and Karanpreet Singh were arrested on May 3.
Last year on June 18, Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered in the parking lot of a gurudwara. Unknown attackers shot him and fled. The Canadian police investigation has not yet revealed who fired the bullets at Nijjar. But they have accused four people, who were arrested this year, of being connected to this murder. Three people were arrested on May 3, while the fourth accused Amandeep Singh was arrested on May 11. Now the news is that one of them has been attacked, but it is not clear which of the three was targeted.
He is already in jail on charges of drug and arms smuggling. All four people were also produced in Surrey court on 7 August in the murder case. Now the next hearing of this case is to be held on 1 October. Amandeep Singh was first brought to court in this case on 15 May, while the other three people were produced on 7 May. On May 21, for the first time, all four accused were produced together in court. During this time, a large number of Khalistani fundamentalists demonstrated and raised slogans outside the court. These four are accused of murder and conspiracy to murder.
Relations between India and Canada had also deteriorated over the Nijjar murder case. However, till now the Canadian government has not been able to prove any connection of the Indian government in this case. A Canadian police officer had said on May 3 that we are investigating this angle separately. It is worth noting that the tension in the relations had increased so much that India had ordered the additional diplomatic staff of Canada to leave the country. A similar order had come from Canada as well.
