GSMA Intelligence estimates that the number of 5G mobile subscribers in the country will increase rapidly in the next 6 years and data usage will also increase at the same speed.
With the increase in the number of 5G subscribers, data consumption will also increase. This will also motivate telecom companies to increase their investment. It is also estimated that between 2023 and 2029, data consumption in the country will increase at a compound interest growth rate of 15 percent and will reach 68GB per month.
In the Asia-Pacific region, India and Indonesia are best positioned to leverage digitalisation to boost their economic resilience, job creation and innovation, the report said. India is expected to have 120 crore smartphone connections by 2030, while Indonesia is expected to have 387 crore connections by 2030.
The report states that mobile technology and services were 5.3 percent of the GDP of the Asia-Pacific region in the year 2023. This created 1.3 crore jobs in this sector. GSMA Director General Mats Granryd says that India and Indonesia are not only the largest democracies in the Asia-Pacific region, but they are also the future engines of digital and economic growth for the region.
