Gemini AI Assistant May Soon Give Users Calling Messages From Lockscreen

Gemini AI Assistant, the recently introduced artificial intelligence (AI) virtual assistant for Android smartphones, is reportedly getting new features. Since its introduction earlier this year, there was a lack of integration with first party and third party apps. In these months, the tech giant fixed some issues with several extensions that support access to multiple apps and functions. Now a new report claims that Gemini will help in making calls and sending messages from the lock screen on Android devices. Let us know in detail about the new features on Gemini AI.

Gemini Features

As Android Authority reports, the new Gemini AI Assistant features were spotted in Google app beta version 15.42.30.28.arm64. The features are currently not visible and were found during the Android application package (APK) teardown process.

The publication also shared a screenshot of the feature. Based on the screenshots, a new option has reportedly appeared in Gemini on the lock screen menu in its settings. The title of this new option is “Make calls and send messages without unlocking”, followed by a toggle switch. If users want to use this function, they can reportedly turn it on.

It is worth noting that currently users can make calls and send messages using Google Assistant even when their device is locked. However, this new feature reportedly also enhances the capabilities of the AI based virtual assistant. According to the screenshot, users will still have to unlock the device to view incoming messages with private content.

Apart from this, Google is also reportedly improving the floating Gemini text field overlay. Based on other screenshots shared, the new interface is a slim text box with two separate boxes containing “Ask about this page” and “Summarize this page” options. This new design reportedly replaces the large floating box that users currently get.

The publication claimed that some changes are also taking place in the extensions page of Gemini AI Assistant. Instead of showing all the extensions in one place, the new design reportedly separates the extensions into several categories. Some of the categories are called Communications, Device Control, Travel, Media, and Productivity. However, it is not known when these features will be introduced to users.
