Samsung Retains First Position in International Folding Smartphone Shipments, Huawei, Motorola, Xiaomi

The market of foldable smartphones has grown rapidly in the last few years. South Korean smartphone maker Samsung has a major stake in this segment. However, shipments of foldable smartphones declined by about one percent in the third quarter of the current year. This is the first decline after six consecutive quarters of growth.

in this segment Samsung Followed by Honor, Huawei, Motorola and Xiaomi. According to the report of market research firm Counterpoint, the major reason for the decline in shipments of foldable smartphones in the third quarter could be the weak sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, despite this the company has 56 percent share in this market. Counterpoint’s international foldable smartphone market tracker shows that Samsung’s sales have declined in China’s smartphone market. The main reason behind this is the increasing sales of new foldable smartphones from Honor, Xiaomi and Huawei. Apart from this, Samsung is facing tough competition from Motorola’s new Razr foldable smartphones in North America.

Huawei is the second largest company in the international market of foldable smartphones. It has a market share of about 15 percent. In the same period last year, this share was about 13 percent. In the last few months, Huawei has introduced triple-fold smartphones Mate XT Ultimate Design and Nova Flip.

Samsung’s new series of foldable smartphones may be launched next year. This may include Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. The company can use Exynos chipset for the first time in its foldable smartphones. Recently, tipster Jukanlosreve had said in a post on social media platform X that the upcoming Exynos 2500 chipset can be used in Samsung’s new foldable smartphones. Snapdragon chipsets were provided in the company’s previous series of foldable smartphones. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was used as the processor in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 introduced this year. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip FE can also be launched soon. To keep this foldable smartphone affordable, its features may be reduced slightly compared to the company’s Galaxy Z Flip series.
