Encounter between army and terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, two soldiers martyred; 3 injured

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday. Two soldiers were martyred in this encounter while three others were injured. Officials said that security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Ahlan Gadole of Kokernag area of South Kashmir district after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. Officials said that the encounter started after the terrorists opened fire on the search party and the security forces fired in retaliation.

According to information received on Saturday afternoon, based on information about the presence of terrorists in the Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation. As soon as the security forces cordoned off the area, the terrorists hiding there started firing. Due to which an encounter broke out between the two sides. One soldier was injured in the initial firing, who was immediately taken to 92 Base Army Hospital. Shortly after this, news of another soldier being injured came and then tragically two soldiers were martyred.

It is believed that this group of terrorists is heavily armed and is associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed. According to reports, these terrorists had managed to infiltrate the forest areas of South Kashmir from Doda. Due to dense forest and rugged terrain, the possibility of terrorists escaping has increased but the security forces have cordoned off the area and continued the extensive search operation. During this encounter, the terrorists fled into the dense forest area after coming in front of the security forces, making the encounter even more complicated. At present, the security forces are searching the area with full alertness.

This encounter going on in Anantnag is being linked to the series of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent months. About two weeks ago, the army foiled an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) on the Line of Control in Kupwara district. In this attack, one soldier was martyred and four others, including a Major rank officer, were injured.

Earlier, an encounter with terrorists also took place in Doda district in which four army personnel, including an officer and a policeman, were martyred. The responsibility for this attack was claimed by ‘Kashmir Tigers’, a pseudo group of Pakistan-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed. These attacks have further complicated the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and posed challenges for the security forces.
