On the occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned the situation in neighboring country Bangladesh. He talked about ensuring the safety of minorities and Hindus in the country. Violence has been going on in Bangladesh since the beginning of August, in which more than 500 people have lost their lives. There were reports that houses and shops of Hindus were targeted at many places.
PM Modi said, ‘Considering what has happened in Bangladesh, it is justified to worry. I hope that the situation there will return to normal soon. Especially 140 crore Indians are concerned that the safety of Hindus and minorities there should be ensured. India always wants that the neighbouring countries live in peace and move towards development. We are concerned about the development of Bangladesh and we are together for anything positive.’
Attacks on Hindus have not stopped in Bangladesh. According to media reports, Hindus have faced attacks and threats at 278 places in 48 districts in Bangladesh. There were reports that recently the house of a Hindu family was set on fire in Farabari Mandirpara in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila. The incident took place on Tuesday. However, the local people immediately reached the spot and controlled the fire.
On Monday itself, the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance said that the Hindu community has faced attacks and threats at 278 places since the end of Sheikh Hasina’s rule. The Alliance says that due to the change in government, incidents like vandalism, looting, arson, land grabbing and threats to leave the country are happening repeatedly against the Hindu community.
