The central government has issued a notification for the appointment of Chief Justices of eight High Courts. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal shared information about these appointments on the social media platform “X”. Let us tell you that these appointments were stuck for a long time. The recommendations regarding the Chief Justices were made by the Supreme Court Collegium on July 11. However, on September 17, it changed its previous recommendations regarding the appointment of Chief Justices (CJs) in four High Courts.
The list of new appointments is as follows:
Justice Manmohan (presently Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher (presently a judge of the Delhi High Court) has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
Justice Suresh Kumar Kait (Delhi High Court Judge) appointed as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Justice Indra Prasanna Mukherjee (Judge of Calcutta High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar (Judge of Bombay High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
Justice Tashi Rabstan (Judge of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.
Justice KR Sriram(Judge of Bombay High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
Justice MS Ramachandra Rao (presently Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court) appointed as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
The Supreme Court collegium had made recommendations for these high courts on July 11. Nearly two months later, on September 17, the collegium modified the recommendations of three judges, including Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice GS Sandhawala.
The Collegium also proposed that Justice GS Sandhawalia (Punjab and Haryana High Court) be appointed as the Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, who will take over the post after the retirement of Justice Shakdher on October 18.
