Lebanon’s Shia group Hezbollah released a video on Friday that could prove to be a cause of concern for Israel. This video shows underground tunnels and trucks with huge missile launchers. The video was revealed at a time when negotiators are meeting in Qatar to end the Gaza conflict. Now diplomatic activities have intensified in Lebanon to avert a wider conflict.
The nearly 4-minute-long video shows Hezbollah operatives traveling through large, lighted tunnels with motorcycles and other vehicles, including a convoy of trucks. Some of the trucks are seen carrying missiles through these tunnels and a sign with “Imad 4” is seen, in memory of top Hezbollah commander Imad Mughniyeh, who was assassinated in Damascus in 2008.
The risk of fighting between Hezbollah and Israeli forces has escalated since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, which sparked the Gaza war. However, following the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and the death of a key Hezbollah commander in Lebanon, diplomats are working to avert a wider conflict.
Experts say Hezbollah has a wide array of heavy artillery rockets, ballistic missiles, and anti-aircraft, anti-tank and anti-ship missiles. Hezbollah may also have an extensive network of underground tunnels in the Bekaa Valley along the border with southern Lebanon and Syria.
This video from Hezbollah and its display of military capabilities could prove to be a major setback for Israel. This could not only increase the concern of Israeli security forces but could also lead to a potential wider conflict.
