A woman married 10 men. Had relationships with them. Now she has accused all of them of rape. The Karnataka High Court, which is hearing this case, recently directed the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG-IGP) to digitally disseminate the information of the suspect woman Deepika to police stations across the state and ask them to be careful with her complaints.
Justice M Nagaprasanna gave this direction after quashing the ongoing case against PK Vivek, a coffee plantation owner of Sakleshpur in Hassan district of Karnataka, and his family members. Vivek and Deepika, who live in Kushalnagar in Kodagu district, met on August 28, 2022 at Hotel Lalit Mahal Palace in Mysore in connection with a business work. During this time, a relationship developed between the two.
A few months later, on September 8, 2022, Deepika filed a rape complaint against Vivek and the Kushalnagar police asked the two to settle the matter amicably. In a second complaint filed on September 19, 2022, the woman claimed that Vivek married her and abandoned her soon after.
This case reached the Karnataka High Court. In the court, Vivek and his family members argued that Vivek is the victim of the 10th case filed by Deepika. In his argument, he told the court that all the members of his family have been forcibly dragged into this.
Justice Nagaprasanna said that since 2011, Deepika has filed 10 complaints against different husbands/partners alleging rape, cruelty, threats, cheating, etc. He said most of the complaints were filed in various police stations in Bengaluru and one case each in Chikkaballapur and Mumbai.
The judge noted that in three cases, the accused were acquitted by the trial court and five complaints were filed by the victims against Deepika, alleging extortion and other offences.
The court said, “There is a common trend in all the acquittal orders. Despite repeated notices, the complainant does not appear in court. The complainant has filed cases against several men and their family members without any reason. They have been made accused in the web of proceedings. Even those accused were taken into custody on the charge of rape under section 376 of IPC. After being in custody for a long time, they got bail.”
During the hearing, the judge said that this case has surpassed even honey trap. The court said, “The intention is clear. This is only to harass those who had nothing to do with the complainant. More than 10 people have fallen victim to the actions and tricks of the complainant, which is tantamount to honey-trap. I consider the actions of the complainant to be a decade-old saga of fraud. This is not just against one person, but against many people.”
The complainant is constantly lying and filing the case without any concrete evidence. She has been consistently absent in every hearing. The judge said that even before this court, the complainant has appeared once and has not appeared on many occasions. The judge said: “The police station before which the complainant wants to file the case should not register the case without conducting a proper preliminary investigation. This trend needs to be stopped.”
