Nine people were injured in a bus accident in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The accident occurred when a drunk person grabbed the steering wheel of a BEST bus during a quarrel with the driver on Sunday evening. Due to this, the bus lost its balance and nine pedestrians were hit by it. An official gave this information. According to the official, out of the nine pedestrians injured in the accident, the condition of three is critical. He said that due to the actions of the drunk passenger, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, due to which pedestrians, cars and two-wheelers were hit by it in the Lalbaug area of the city.
The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking is the transport arm of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). According to an officer from the Kalachowki police station, an electric bus on route 66 (from Ballard Pier in south Mumbai) was headed towards Rani Laxmibai Chowk in Sion when the incident occurred. A passenger, who was drunk, got into an argument with the bus driver. When the bus reached near Ganesh Talkies in Lalbaug, he suddenly grabbed the steering, causing the vehicle to go out of the driver’s control.
He said the bus hit two motorcycles and a car as well as several pedestrians, injuring nine people. Three of them are in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to different hospitals in the city. The officer said the police have taken the drunk passenger into custody and the case is under investigation.
