A female flying officer posted at Air Force Station Srinagar has accused of rape. Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case of sexual and mental harassment against senior officer Wing Commander in this regard. An FIR was registered against the accused Wing Commander under Section 376 (2) of the Indian Penal Code at Police Station Budgam on Sunday. The woman officer said in her complaint that the incident took place on the night of December 31, 2023 during a New Year party at the Air Force Station in Srinagar.
The woman officer said in the complaint, ‘After the party, the Wing Commander at the station asked me if I got a gift? I said I did not get anything. So he asked me to come to his room where many gifts were kept. As soon as I went to the room with him, he started forcing himself on me. I repeatedly appealed to him to stop. Despite my protest, he did not listen and started having oral sex with me.’
‘There is no expression of remorse on the Wing Commander’s face’
The Air Force officer further said in her complaint, ‘Finally I pushed him and ran away from there. During this, he told me that we will meet again on Friday, when his family members leave.’ The flying officer said that it took some time to raise voice against what happened to me. She said, ‘I was scared. I did not understand what to do? Such incidents had happened before as well, about which I was discouraged from reporting. But, after this incident, he came to my office. He behaved as if nothing had happened. There was no sign of remorse on his face.’
5 other officers accused of irregularities in investigation
In her complaint, the lady officer has accused the Wing Commander of sexually harassing her in the room. Along with this, the victim has also accused 5 other officers of tampering with the investigation, stalking, harassment and mental torture. After the complaint of the lady officer, Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case. An Inspector rank officer has been given the responsibility of investigation. He said that the entire matter is being investigated in detail.
Air Force issued a statement on the incident, what did it say?
The Indian Air Force has issued a statement on this matter in which it has been said that full cooperation is being given to the authorities. NDTV quoted the IAF as saying in the report, ‘We have received information about the case. The local police station Bagdam contacted the Indian Air Force regarding this matter. We are fully cooperating with the local authorities.’
