Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s daughter has shared an old photo of Abdullah with the Gandhi family on social media along with the announcement of the Congress-National Conference alliance for the upcoming assembly elections. This photo of December 1986 has been shared by Safia Abdullah Khan, in which Farooq Abdullah is seen with his three daughters, wife and son Omar Abdullah.
The Abdullah family is seen posing with the Gandhi family, which includes former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, wife Sonia Gandhi and their children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka.
Safia shared the photo on Instagram with the caption, “Rahul Gandhi is visiting Kashmir. I can’t help but remember my visit on this day many years ago.” Recalling the day, Safia said it was “just two old friends with their families”. She further wrote, “Two politicians and four future leaders!”
He also said that the photo was taken in Tangmarg as they could not go to Gulmarg due to heavy snowfall. A user on X said that Rajiv Gandhi and his family travelled from Jammu to Srinagar by road that day.
On Friday, Omar Abdullah said seat-sharing arrangements with the Congress have been finalised for most of the 90 assembly seats. According to sources, the Congress has expressed its willingness to contest 12 seats in Kashmir and has offered 12 seats to the National Conference in the Jammu division.
Assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the abolition of Article 370. The elections will be held in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1. Counting of votes will take place on October 4 along with Haryana.
