Bangladesh-like situation prevailed in Bengal at midnight, crowd created a ruckus in the hospital; Doctor recorded the video

Unknown miscreants vandalised the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, late last night. The scenes in the video going viral on social media match the recent riots in Bangladesh. Let us tell you that the body of a female trainee doctor was found in this hospital last week. This vandalism took place at midnight amid protests against the rape and murder of the doctor.

According to the police, a group of about 40 people allegedly entered the hospital premises posing as protesters, damaged property and pelted stones at policemen, following which the policemen had to fire tear gas shells to disperse the mob. A police vehicle and some two-wheelers present at the spot were damaged in the incident, it said. Some police officials were also injured in the violence, an official said.

A senior Kolkata Police official told PTI, “Adequate number of policemen have been deployed outside the hospital and they have been instructed to handle the situation.”

In the video going viral, you can clearly see the size of the crowd. The resident doctor who recorded the video is giving information about the incident. According to the video, the doctor has said that a crowd of thousands attacked him. The doctor clearly alleged that the aim of the crowd was to destroy the evidence.

Let us tell you that the protests under the ‘Reclaim the Night’ campaign started at 11:55 pm. This campaign, which gained momentum through social media, spread to major areas of small towns and big cities including many historical places of Kolkata.

Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee said he spoke to the commissioner and urged him to ensure that “everyone responsible for today’s violence is identified, held accountable and brought to justice within the next 24 hours, regardless of their political affiliation.” He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “All limits of hooliganism and vandalism were crossed at RG Kar tonight. I have just spoken to CP Kolkata as a public representative.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the vandalism was carried out by Trinamool goons sent by party supremo Mamata Banerjee. “Mamata Banerjee has sent her Trinamool goons to the non-political protest rally near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. She thinks she is the smartest person in the whole world and people will not understand this cunning plan that her goons coming as protesters will join the crowd and vandalise inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,” Adhikari wrote on Twitter. Adhikari also alleged that the police gave safe passage to the miscreants.

“The police gave them a safe passage. The police personnel either ran away or looked the other way so that these miscreants could enter the hospital premises and destroy the areas where crucial evidence was kept so that it does not fall into the hands of the CBI,” he said in the post.
