Political excitement is increasing regarding the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. On Monday, both BJP and Congress announced the names of some more of their candidates. BJP released the fourth list of 6 candidates for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. It shows that Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina will contest from Nowshera. According to this list released by the party, Engineer Aijaz Hussain from Lal Chowk, Arif Raza from Idgah, Ali Mohammad Mir from Khansahib, Tahid Hussain from Charar-e-Sharif and Vibodh Gupta from Rajouri will be the party candidates.
At the same time, Congress released its second list of 6 candidates on Monday for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. In this, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Tariq Hameed Karra has been fielded from Central Shalateng seat. This list was released soon after the meeting of the Central Election Committee of Congress, in which the names of the candidates for the elections were finalized. The party is contesting these elections in alliance with the National Conference.
On which faces did Congress express confidence
Besides Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee chief Hameed Karra, the party has fielded Mumtaz Khan from Reasi, Bhupinder Jamwal from Mata Vaishno Devi, Iftikhar Ahmad from Rajouri (ST), Shabbir Ahmad Khan from Thannamandi (ST) and Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudhary from Surankote (ST). These constituencies will vote in the second phase of the three-phase assembly elections. The total number of candidates declared by the party is now 15.
Seat sharing between National Conference and Congress
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, general secretary in-charge (organisation) KC Venugopal, Hameed Karra, Jammu and Kashmir screening committee chief Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Salman Khurshid and other leaders attended the meeting at the AICC headquarters. The National Conference and Congress have finalised the seat-sharing formula and will contest 51 and 32 seats respectively. The CPI(M) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) have been allotted 1 seat each. Last week, the Congress released its first list of 9 candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases (September 18, September 25 and October 1) followed by counting of votes on October 8.
