A bloody clash broke out today (Tuesday) between workers of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition Congress in Zira town of Firozpur district of Punjab. There is news of some people being injured in this clash. All the injured have been admitted to the nearest hospital. Someone suffered head injuries and someone’s leg was broken. After this incident, the administration has deployed heavy police force in the entire town including the incident site.
This clash between workers of both political parties took place during nomination for Gram Panchayat elections. The police had to open fire amid the clash between workers of both the parties. After this there was heavy stone pelting from both the sides. A total of eight people including former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh were injured during stone pelting. The condition of one of them is said to be critical, who has been referred to Faridkot for better treatment. According to eyewitnesses, many vehicles were also vandalized at the time of this incident.
Congress accused the administration of colluding with AAP leaders. Congress leaders have alleged that NOC and other documents of Sarpanch and Panch are deliberately not being provided to Congress candidates.
