By-election Results: The results of by-elections held on 13 assembly seats in seven states have been declared. After the Lok Sabha elections, the dominance of India Alliance has been seen once again. Out of 13 seats, Congress and Trinamool Congress have won four each, while two seats went to BJP. At the same time, India Alliance’s DMK has won one seat in Tamil Nadu and Aam Aadmi Party has won in Jalandhar West of Punjab. BJP has won one seat each in MP and Himachal Pradesh. India Alliance is very happy with the results of the Lok Sabha elections on June 4 and now after a month, the parties of India Alliance have dominated BJP in the results of the assembly by-elections.
What are the reasons behind BJP’s defeat?
In Uttarakhand, which is known as Devbhoomi, BJP has lost two seats. After Ayodhya, BJP has lost another religious place Badrinath. Here, Lakhpat Singh Butola of Congress defeated Rajendra Bhandari of BJP by more than five thousand votes, while Mangalore assembly seat of Uttarakhand has also gone to Congress. Looking at the results of the by-elections, it is clear that the effect of the Lok Sabha elections is still being seen in the country. Political experts believe that the kind of results of the Lok Sabha elections that came, the opposition party has got a big boost. After stopping BJP, which claimed to cross 400 for NDA, at 240 seats, the leaders of the opposition India Alliance are on the front foot. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi gave a strong speech in Parliament and within a few days he visited states like Gujarat, UP, Manipur one after the other. This has brought new freshness in the opposition parties including Congress. In the last ten years, the opposition was getting one defeat after another, that trend has changed with the results of this one Lok Sabha election. For this reason, it is believed that the impact of the Lok Sabha election results was also seen in the assembly by-elections. In Himachal Pradesh, BJP may have managed to win the Hamirpur seat, but it has lost the Dehra and Nalagarh seats. In UP, the Congress and SP alliance had performed brilliantly and had raised hopes of a comeback in North India, which it has maintained even after the results of the by-elections in Uttarakhand and Himachal.
Local reasons also went against BJP
In many states, local reasons have also become the reason for BJP’s defeat. For example, many local reasons are being considered behind BJP’s defeat in Uttarakhand’s Badrinath seat. Development projects like All Weather Road and the displeasure of priests have cost BJP heavily. Similarly, in Uttarakhand too, protests have been going on against the cutting of trees and forests for development projects. On the other hand, Sheetal Angural, who joined BJP from Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab, has faced public displeasure. Sheetal was an MLA from Aam Aadmi Party from Jalandhar West Assembly seat, but he joined BJP during the Lok Sabha elections. It is clear from the election results that the public did not like Sheetal’s move from AAP to BJP and they made Aam Aadmi Party candidate Mohinder Bhagat win.
Wherever a party is in power, that party dominates!
Except Uttarakhand and Bihar, the candidate of the party which is in power in all the other states has won. In Madhya Pradesh’s Amarwara assembly seat, BJP’s Kamlesh Pratap Shah has defeated Congress in a close contest. BJP is currently in power in Madhya Pradesh and this state has been a stronghold of the saffron party for a long time. At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party has won the only by-election in Punjab, Jalandhar West seat. Here too, AAP has been in power for more than two years. Apart from this, Mamata Banerjee has done a clean sweep in West Bengal. Here TMC has won all four seats. However, despite BJP being in power in Uttarakhand, Congress has managed to win both the seats. On the other hand, there is a Congress government in Himachal Pradesh and out of the three seats here, Congress has won two and BJP has won one. Talking about Bihar, independent candidate Shankar Singh won a big victory in Rupauli assembly by defeating RJD and JDU candidates.
