Caution! Storm alert in 14 states for the next 3 days, torrential rains will also occur; IMD informed

Weather Updates 13 September: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday warned of stormy winds and heavy rains in 14 states for the next two to three days. Due to a pressure area formed in central India, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh. Strong winds at a speed of 55 kmph are expected in parts of northern Madhya Pradesh, western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi in the next 24 hours.

Three districts of Himachal Pradesh may be flooded. Heavy rains are also forecast at some places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura in the Northeast. Due to the formation of a new low pressure area in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, heavy rains are expected in Odisha. Yellow alert has been issued in various districts of Bihar and Orange alert in Jharkhand. The Meteorological Department has warned of sudden floods in some parts of western Uttar Pradesh, eastern and western Madhya Pradesh.

Why did heavy rain conditions arise?
Heavy rains are expected due to a depression formed over central India. The depression is located about 50 km north of the city near Gwalior and 60 km south-southeast of Agra. It is likely to move in a north-north-easterly direction in the next 24 hours, said private weather forecasting agency Skymet.

The mercury level in the capital dropped by 6 degrees
The skies of the capital Delhi remained overcast throughout the day on Thursday. Light rain occurred at many places. A significant drop was recorded in the maximum and minimum temperatures. The maximum temperature of the day was recorded six degrees below normal at Delhi’s standard observatory Safdarjung. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Friday. Heavy rain may occur at many places.

Heavy rain wreaked havoc in UP
23 people have lost their lives due to rain in Uttar Pradesh for the last two days. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be heavy rain in the state for the next three days. Hathras received the highest rainfall of 186 mm in the last 24 hours. Orders have been given to close all schools from class one to 12 in Bulandshahr and Sambhal on Friday.

Red alert for very heavy rain in ten districts of Uttarakhand
On Thursday, many districts of Uttarakhand received heavy rain. The Weather Department has issued a red alert for heavy rain in 10 districts and an orange alert for three districts for the next two days. 15 people were injured due to the collapse of a wall in Kashipur. On Friday, a holiday was declared in all schools up to class 12 in all districts of Kumaon division and three districts of Garhwal division. On Thursday afternoon, the first snowfall of the season occurred at Sipu, situated at an altitude of 11,820 feet in the Darma Valley in Pithoragarh. Due to incessant rain, 3,000 Kedarnath pilgrims were stopped at Sonprayag. Due to heavy rain, 151 roads including NH and State Highway are blocked in the state.

Light to heavy rain expected in Bihar
There is a possibility of heavy rain in Nawada, Gaya, Jamui, Banka, Munger and Lakhisarai in Bihar. On September 15, there is a yellow alert for heavy rain in Kaimur, Rohtas, Gaya, Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai and Munger. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Haryana till September 15.
