Confident of winning Haryana alone, then why is Congress trying to woo AAP; Inside Story

Congress is assuming a strong position in the Haryana assembly elections and it feels that it will return to power after ending its 10-year exile. Nevertheless, on the advice of Rahul Gandhi, discussions have intensified on an alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana. Aam Aadmi Party has staked claim on 10 assembly seats, while Congress may also agree to give 6 to 7 seats. In such a situation, the question is also being raised that when Congress is in a position to win in the state on its own, then why does it need the support of Aam Aadmi Party, which was given the Kurukshetra seat by Congress in the Lok Sabha elections, but it lost.

In response to this, Congress sources say that the party wants a guarantee of victory. In such a situation, it is worried about division of votes due to Aam Aadmi Party contesting on all 90 seats. Now if Aam Aadmi Party is taken along, then the votes cast against BJP will remain united on every seat. Congress feels that votes can already be divided due to parties like Dushyant Chautala’s Jannayak Janata Party, INLD, Azad Samaj Party and BSP. In such a situation, if Aam Aadmi Party also contests separately, then division of votes can prove to be costly. In such a situation, Congress wants to move cautiously and is trying to avoid the danger of any kind of overconfidence.

Rahul Gandhi had suggested this to the Haryana leaders in the Congress election committee meeting on Monday. There was news that Haryana Congress leaders did not want seat sharing, but after Rahul Gandhi’s advice, discussions are on. The Hooda camp wants to give only 4 seats to the Aam Aadmi Party, but in the end, an agreement can be reached on 7. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party, which had initially demanded 20 seats, has now also demanded 10 seats. AAP leaders will soon have a meeting with Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal to discuss this.

Actually, in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi and Congress had given the message of taking the INDIA Alliance along. Congress had left a lot of seats for its allies in many states and said that this is necessary for the alliance against BJP. Now Congress is giving a similar signal from Haryana. In this way, Rahul Gandhi and his party want the opposition unity formed in the Lok Sabha elections to remain. At the same time, this is a big success for the Aam Aadmi Party, which can win some seats without any struggle.
