Wipro WFH: India’s third largest IT company Wipro has implemented a strict policy for calling employees working from home (WFH) to the office. Now Wipro employees will have to come to the office at least three days a week or else a day’s leave will be deducted. According to Live Mint, Bengaluru-based Wipro Limited sent an internal mail to its employees instructing them to come to the office at least three times a week or risk losing a day’s leave. It joins a pack of IT service companies implementing work-from-office rules. LTI Mindtree has also taken similar action.
Instructions to HR to cancel WFH approval
In a mail sent to Wipro employees on September 2, the management has asked the HR team to reject the WHF requests of employees. The order said, “If any such approval is received, please cancel the approval with immediate effect and suggest the teams to come to the office at least three days a week. If this is not done, the leave should be deducted in the system.”
A Wipro employee, on condition of anonymity, said, “If an employee is not physically present in the office for the required three days in a week, all three days will be counted as leave.” Mint could not independently ascertain whether the cancelled leaves would result in a pay cut for the day.
A person aware of the matter, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the directive is only for a few projects and does not apply to all employees. Mint could not independently ascertain how many employees would be affected.
LTI Mindtree employees will also have to come to the office
Mumbai-based software services company LTI Mindtree has linked holidays to the attendance of employees from September 1. The policy of working from office has been named Rhythm. Under this, employees who do not come to office for four days will have one day of leave deducted.
India’s largest software services companies are asking their employees to return to the office either for all days of the week or on certain days. These companies collectively employ more than 15 lakh people.
What did TCS and Infosys do
TCS has linked its employees’ variable pay to office attendance and has asked employees to work from the office all five days a week. Meanwhile, India’s second-largest IT outsourcing company Infosys Ltd has adopted a hybrid work model. The company has ordered employees to be in the office for some days and work from home for the rest of the days.
