Before this encounter, security forces discovered a terrorist hideout during a joint operation of police and army in Surankot town of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Police said that on 12 September 2024, on specific information, police, army and CRPF conducted a joint search operation in the general area of ​​Chamard Surankot.

The area was cordoned off and the target area was searched. During the search, the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security forces. However, the security forces responded.
