Faiz Hameed, former chief of Pakistan’s intelligence agency Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), has been detained. This action was taken by the Army in connection with the housing scheme scam. The Public Relations Wing of the Pakistan Army said, ‘This step was taken in compliance with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The veracity of the complaints lodged against the Lieutenant will be ascertained. At present, disciplinary action has been initiated against Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed (Retired) under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.’
Even after retirement, several cases of violation of Pakistan Army Act have been registered against Faiz Hameed. The process of Field General Court Martial has been started in this regard. Under this, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody. Allegations were made against Hameed by Top City, a private housing scheme in Pakistan. It was claimed that he had raided the offices and residence of its owner Moiz Khan. It is known that Lieutenant General (Retd) Hameed was considered extremely powerful while leading the spy agency from 2019 to 2021.
Allegations of abuse of power
According to the report, the Pakistan Army formed an inquiry committee in April to investigate the allegations of misuse of power against Hameed. This committee was formed after the Supreme Court of Pakistan gave an important order in November last year. It said that the allegations against Hameed are of a very serious nature. In such a situation, they cannot be ignored. This is because if they are proved right, then it will undermine the reputation of the country’s institutions. The Pakistani Supreme Court had asked the owner of the housing society to contact the Ministry of Defense to demand action against the former spymaster. In March, the Rawalpindi court sent Najaf Hameed, brother of the former ISI chief, to jail on 14-day judicial remand in this case.
