Lawyer Harish Salve has claimed about the Paris Olympics that Vinesh Phogat did not want us to challenge the decision taken against her in the sports tribunal. In fact, wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified on 7 August just before the women’s 50 kg freestyle final at the Paris Olympics due to being 100 grams overweight, due to which wrestler Vinesh Phogat was out of the final. This was the first time that a female wrestler from India reached the final of the Olympics.
This statement of Harish Salve comes after Vinesh’s statement in which she claimed that when the Olympic Association disqualified her just before the final, she did not get any support from the Indian Olympic Association. Our lawyers were already looking lenient about that decision. Due to all these reasons, she could not get India’s first gold in women’s wrestling in the Olympics. However, an appeal was made against this decision on behalf of the Indian Olympic Association and Vinesh Phogat, in which Harish Salve represented her as a lawyer, but his petition was rejected and Vinesh had to return without a medal.
Vinesh was not even ready to go to Swiss court against this decision
In an interview given to Times Now, Harish Salve said that even after our offer, Vinesh Phogat did not want to challenge the decision given by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. However, later we got all the documents and information required for appeal, after which we fought hard. But our appeal was rejected. I also told her that we can challenge this decision against the arbitration award in the Swiss court. But she did not react to this, later her lawyers told me that she does not want to take it forward.
Vinesh’s lawyers lack coordination, refuse to share information with us
Salve alleged that there was lack of coordination among Vinesh Phogat’s lawyers as a very good law firm appointed by the Indian Olympic Association was told by some lawyers that we will not share anything with you.
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified in the 50 kg category of women’s freestyle wrestling during the Paris Olympics 2024 on the day of the final due to being 100 grams overweight. After the Olympics, Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling. Vinesh has recently joined the Congress party. During an interview, she accused the Indian Olympic Association that she did not get any kind of help after the decision of disqualification. The association’s president PT Usha took her photo without her consent and posted it on social media. During this whole matter, only politics has happened and nothing else.
