Highways are not for parking, remove tractors; Supreme Court told farmers sitting at Shambhu border

The Supreme Court has ordered the partial opening of the Shambhu border connecting Punjab and Haryana. Hearing the case on Monday, the court said that the border should be opened for women and children. Apart from this, there is a need to partially open the road at Shambhu border for the movement of ambulances, essential services and local passengers. The court has also asked the Punjab government to talk to the farmers and persuade them to remove the tractors from the Shambhu border.

The bench asked the Punjab government to convince the protesting farmers to remove the tractors from the road at Shambhu border. The court said that highways are not for vehicle parking. In this way, the apex court also made a sharp comment on the protesting farmers, who have been sitting on the Shambhu border with tractors for several months. The court directed the Director Generals of Police of Punjab, Haryana to hold a meeting with the Superintendents of Police of neighboring districts in a week to partially reopen the roads at Shambhu border.
