The war between Hamas and the Israeli army is about to complete one year and Israel’s plans to root out Palestinian terrorists have not been realized yet. At least 34 thousand people have died in this war and innocent lives are being lost continuously. Meanwhile, all is not well in Israel. The Times of Israel reports that Benjamin Netanyahu has severely reprimanded the IDF Chief. The pain of laxity in the operation against Hamas and the inability to release Israeli hostages till now is troubling Netanyahu. After Netanyahu’s warning, a statement has also come from IDF Chief Harjai Havelli. He has bluntly told Netanyahu that he is doing whatever he can against Hamas and he is not going to resign in the middle of the war. Let us tell you that some time ago, Havelli had announced that he would resign from his post, taking responsibility for the massacre in Israel on October 7.
Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzai Halevi said on Sunday that the deal with Hamas includes the release of hostages in exchange for a ceasefire, a possible Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and the release of Palestinian security prisoners. “It is a moral imperative and the military is capable of dealing with its implications.” “Agreeing to the return of the hostages is imperative to save lives,” he said at a news conference at the Palmachim airbase in central Israel.
The IDF knows its job
Responding to criticism from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Halevi said, “The IDF is exerting all the pressure necessary to create the best conditions for such an agreement, and this is what we have been pursuing since the previous agreement expired.”
Why was Netanyahu angry
In fact, on Saturday night, Netanyahu had alleged that “it has been many months since the war against Hamas and there has been no progress. The military pressure for the release of the hostages is not as strong as it should be. He further said that this situation will change only when the IDF enters Rafah and puts full pressure on Hamas. In fact, people in Israel have started a march against Netanyahu for the release of their loved ones. They are constantly accusing Netanyahu of not keeping the release of hostages on priority. His critics in Israel have also repeatedly accused Netanyahu of undermining the negotiation efforts with Hamas.
Halevi said, “The IDF knows how to abide by any agreement agreed at the political level and to continue its fight with the same intensity even after a ceasefire.” Halevi said, “The IDF will not stop working to free the hostages. Because we know how hard they are living right now and we will continue to attack Hamas until this goal is achieved.”
I will not resign in the middle of the war
During the press conference, Halevi spoke on a variety of topics concerning the IDF since the war broke out on October 7. He said he would decide on resigning only after the war objectives were achieved, in light of the army’s failure to prevent the October 7 massacre. He said, “I have been serving in the IDF for almost 40 years. Not a single moment of my service was spent glued to the chair. I am currently engaged in the work of eliminating Hamas, bringing back hostages, providing security to our people at the borders.
