The Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav whitewashed Sri Lanka in the three-match T20 series. The last match played between the two teams at Pallekele Stadium on Tuesday was very exciting. The result of the third T20 was decided in the super over. India scored 138/9. In reply, Sri Lanka also scored the same number of runs by losing 8 wickets. At one time India seemed to be heading towards defeat but Suryakumar and Rinku Singh did wonders. They played an important role in snatching victory from Sri Lanka in the last two overs. Washington Sundar completed the remaining task in the super over.
Deadly bowling by Rinku Singh
Sri Lanka needed 8 runs to win in the last 12 balls. In such a situation, Surya surprised everyone by handing the ball to Rinku. Rinku bowled a lethal ball in the 19th over and proved the captain right. He gave 3 runs and took 2 wickets. He bowled a dot ball on the first ball and on the next ball, he caught and bowled Kusal Perera (46 off 34 balls), who was batting steadily. Kamindu Mendis (1) took a single on the third ball and Ramesh Mendis (3) took a double on the fourth ball. No run came on the fifth ball. Rinku caught Ramesh on the sixth ball. Sri Lanka needed 6 runs in the last over.
Suryakumar’s miraculous over
Surya also took a surprising decision in the 20th over. He himself came to bowl in place of fast bowler Mohammad Siraj. Surya did not give any run on the first ball and on the next ball he trapped Kamindu in his trap. The captain dismissed Mahish Theekshana on the third ball, whose account did not open. Asitha Fernando took a single on the fourth ball. Chamindu Wickramasinghe took a double on the fifth-sixth ball. Surya had a chance to run him out but missed it. Sri Lanka needed three runs on the last ball but Wickramasinghe could run and take only two. After this, the match was tied and reached the super over.
Sundar played the band in the super over
All-rounder Sundar badly defeated Sri Lanka in the super over. He started the over with a wide and then a run came from Kusal Mendis’ bat. Sundar took the wickets of Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka on the second and third balls. Both could not open their account in the super over. India had to score only three runs to win in the super over. Surya hoisted the victory flag of India by hitting a four on the first ball of Theekshana who came to bowl. It is worth noting that while chasing the target, Kusal Mendis (43), Pathum Nissanka (26) and Perera gave Sri Lanka a good start. Sri Lanka’s score was 108/1 in 15 overs but then the wickets started falling. Sri Lanka lost seven wickets by adding only 27 runs.
