Indian citizens should leave Lebanon; India on alert amid fears of war, issues advisory

The Indian government is also on alert mode regarding a possible war between Israel and Hezbollah. It is reported that India has advised its citizens to leave Lebanon. Also, Indians have been asked not to travel to Lebanon. There is speculation that Israel is preparing to invade Lebanon soon. Recently, there were fierce air strikes between Israel and Hezbollah.

The advisory issued by the Indian Embassy in Beirut said, ‘All Indian citizens already present in Lebanon are advised to leave Lebanon.’ It further said, ‘Those who are stuck there for any reason are advised to exercise extreme caution, limit their movements and stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Beirut.’ The embassy has also issued an email ID – cons.beirut@mea.gov.in and an emergency number +96176860128.

According to the website of the Indian Embassy in Beirut, about 4 thousand Indians live in the country. Most of them are employees in companies. Some are in the construction and agriculture sector. Earlier on August 1, the Indian Embassy had also asked citizens to leave Lebanon. Actually, at that time there was tension in the region over the death of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders.

Recently, Israeli army chief Herzi Halevi told the army that the ongoing air strikes in Lebanon will continue to destroy Hezbollah’s infrastructure. He also hinted at a major action on the ground.
