Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh has criticised the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for opposing the Union Budget. He said the allocation for Tamil Nadu is several times more than what was allocated to the state during the UPA regime. “Under the BJP rule, Tamil Nadu was allocated Rs 6,362 crore for railways. When the DMK was part of UPA-2, only Rs 879 crore was allocated for the sector. Now when the budgetary allocation has increased, why are you protesting,” he asked.
Jitendra Singh said Tamil Nadu has received 6 Vande Bharat Express trains. 77 railway stations in the state have been marked under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana. All this happened because PM Modi likes Tamil Nadu, its people and culture. The Kashi Tamil Sangamam was organised on his idea. He asked why this did not happen when the DMK was part of the UPA? He accused the DMK of creating divisions among people on the basis of region, religion and caste. The Union Minister said that all sections of the country have been taken care of in the budget. Even the Congress cannot criticise it.
‘DMK has no right to protest’
Union Minister Singh said that the DMK has no right to protest. He advised the ruling government to use the funds earmarked for the state and especially use this money for projects like ‘Deep Sea Mission’. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh said, ‘Overall, the budget is very futuristic keeping in mind the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 2047. There is a lot of emphasis on startups, employment and women-led development.’ He said this at a program on Union Budget 2024 organized by the Thinkers Cell of the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit.
